Bharti Airtel , Indian Telecom major has crossed a subscriber base of 50 million with nearly 48 million mobile customers and 2 million landline users. The company has become the 10th biggest in the world in terms of subscribers.

Bharti group has seen a tremendous growth in past one year. As per company reports, 25 milllion users have been added in last 14 months. The company aims to achieve target of 100 million customers by the end of this decade. The company plans to add more users from rural sector in coming years. Bharti was able to achieve high growth rate as the company offered many cheap plans to help low end users to buy a mobile connection.

The management of Bharti Airtel is quite confident of better performance in coming quarters. The company plans to launch many new products and with exciting offerings, the management expects figures to rise very fast. Bharti also plans to offer direct-to-home (DTH) services and IPTV by the end of the current fiscal. Bharti has become the fastest growing telecom company in the world by achieving this target in 143 months. China Mobile, China Unicom, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint are top five telecom companies in the world ranked by their subscriber base. BSNL has a user base of 65 million and large part comes from 35 million fixed line users. BSNL has offered a tough competition to private players in recent 3 years after the government owned organization offered better services and prices for many products.

Mr. Manoj Kohli, CEO Bharti Airtel said, “Our next 50 million will largely come from rural India as our plan is to reach 5,200 census towns and over five lakh villages, covering 96 per cent of the Indian population.”

Other than DTH, Bharti plans to offers new products in broadband internet access as well. The company has even planned to enter the telecom market in Sri Lanka.

810iI got a brand new Sony Ericsson k810i (The Cybershot Phone) about 2 weeks back and have been enjoying using it.

Well, let me give you a brief history of my love for Sony Ericsson phone - it all started 5-6years back with the T610 that my dad got me. Till then I was snubbed in the world of Nokia with the Nokia 6150(was a pioneer with IR support at that time and a legendary long antennae) and later Nokia 8310(a sleek and small phone - good battery support). But once I was introduced to the facinating world of Sony Ericsson - I never looked back(very truly).

My first SE phone T610 was an awesome handset for that time with cool features like bluetooth and a decent camera. Also, the ability to have your customized themes made it look afresh every few days. Later I got a k700i which I used (very rashly) for more than 2-3years and till the last day I had it in my hand - it performed like a star. The only problem used to be with the joystick acting funny during the monsoon’s. Well, I don’t want to bore you with the past - let’s have a peek into my new Cybershot phone.

The Sony Ericsson K810i is called a Cybershot phone due to the powerful 3.2 Mega Pixel camera that it hosts. The camera is truly awesome and I love each snap that it takes. It has an in-build Image Stabilizer that results in truly flawless images. I have a Sony 8.2 Mega Pixel Camera for personal use but the images produced with my phone are pretty good to print too.

My handset came with a whooping 2GB M2 memory card - but I have already consumed almost 75% of it. I have put in many movies and transferred my song collections. Also, I have huge collection of mobile games - something to the tune of 200+ (not kidding).

Well, I’ll keep you posted on the cool features of this wonderful gadget in the coming days.

Many of you have been asking me how to increase their browsing speeds with BSNL , MTNL, Airtel, Tata Indicom, Reliance , Sify , etc Broadband connections. As usual I have a trick up my sleeves to increase the speed your Firefox performance.

The below steps will hold good only if you have a Broadband connection - else it will make your browsing much slower. Let’s now have a look at the simple 4 steps.

First of all Type “about:config” into the address bar in Firefox and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries and make the necessary changes.

You will need to enable Pipelining in Firefox. Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several request at once, which will substantially speed up your page loading times.

Alter the entries as follows:
1. Change “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
2. Change “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
3. Also, change “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to a number like 40. This in turn means that Firefox will make 40 requests at once.
4. Finally right-click anywhere in Firefox and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0?. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives - so we ask it not to wait even a second!!

Nokia N95

Nokia also announced that they have teamed up with the Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) to offer a Nokia N95 8GB preloaded with full-length feature film in Europe and selected countries in Middle East and Africa region. More after the jump.

Sony Ericsson s500iSony Ericsson finally announced their new S500 mobile phone that offers ever-changing themes and illuminations that change as day turns to night. It is 14mm thick slider that comes with a 262k color TFT 2-inch display screen, 2-megapixel camera, memory card slot and a GSM/GPRS/EDGE connection for your internet surfing. It is available in 2 colors, the Mysterious Green and Spring Yellow. Sony Ericsson S500 will be available in North America from Q3 2007. More pictures after the jump.

A beta offering, ‘Google SMS’ is meant to make information available on the move, without any need for a computer or an Internet-enabled mobile phone.

This service was initially available only in the US and delivers business and residential listings, product prices and dictionary look-up. Google SMS also can be used to solve mathematical calculations, look up area codes and receive snippets of Google search engine results.

Google SMS is currently available on Airtel, Aircel, BPL, BSNL and Reliance networks. Also it has relevant local data for mobile users in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The development comes amid worldwide speculation on whether Google would launch its own mobile phone.

“There is no denying the importance of text messaging in India and the Google SMS launch is a natural next step for our mobile strategy. Millions of mobile users are being added every month, and Google SMS will provide them a quick and easy way to get the information they need,” Google India’s head of products, Mr Vinay Goel, said.
