December 2007

It’s a research that is likely to infuriate your boss, if he’s less competent than you — undeserving executives tend to work among less qualified and socialable employees only to justify their job.

A team of international researchers has carried out a study and found that people who consider they do not deserve their job try to surround themselves with incompetent or less competent employees, to justify their privileged position.

“Their (bosses) tendency to work among less competent candidates could be based on the fact that they try to prevent the subordinates from becoming competition for them,” the ScienceDaily quoted lead researcher Rosa Rodrguez Bailn.

On the other hand, the team found that qualified executives prefer to work with competent colleagues in jobs that imply responsibility.

In fact, the researchers from the University of Grenada in the United States and the University of Lovaina in Belgium came to the conclusion after analysing a group of 73 volunteer students — the great majority (over 80 per cent) being women aged between 18 and 25 years.

Those who were involved in this study had the opportunity to exercise power. They were notified that they would be representatives at a conference of students, and that they could choose a partner to attend the event and work under their direct supervision.

The students were divided arbitrarily, half of them were told they deserved the granted power (legitimate) while the others were told they did not (illegitimate) . All of them could choose between a very competent and sociable subordinate and a person with noticeably less competence and sociability.

Regardless of whom they chose (legitimate or illegitimate boss), the students clearly distinguished the privileged position of one candidate from the other.

The illegitimate bosses preferred the less competent and sociable candidates in a higher proportion than did the legitimate bosses. In addition to this, they requested more information about the candidate positively described than about the candidate described more negatively.

“Illegitimate bosses have similar opinions about their subordinates’ qualities and aptitudes, in the same manner that the students that took part in this study formed their own during the experience,” according to the researchers.

New Delhi, December 6: Children who abandon parents in their twilight years, beware. They may face three months’ imprisonment and cannot even appeal against the punishment.A Bill passed by Parliament on Thursday will ensure that elderly people are taken care of by their children failing which they would face penal action.

“The Bill provides for three months’ jail term if children do not look after old parents. The penal provision is meant to act as a deterrent,” Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar said in Rajya Sabha.

Kumar said children cannot go in for appeal. “This has been done deliberately as they have a lot of resources which the old people do not have,” she said.

Later, the Rajya Sabha passed the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill, 2007 by a voice vote.

The statement of objects and reasons of the bill says though the parents can claim maintenance under the CRPC, the procedure is both ‘time-consuming as well as expensive’, and there was need to have simple, inexpensive and speedy provisions for care of parents.

The Bill has a clause for punishment to those who abandon their parents or relatives whose property they have inherited or would get as their legal heirs.

The Bill, already passed by Lok Sabha, provides for setting up of a tribunal in each district for helping the old in distress.

It also has a provision for establishment of old age homes which, the Minister said, should be the last resort for the poor and the childless.

Some years ago, on a hot summer day in South Florida, a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.

His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could.

Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him.

From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.

Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal. And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his father’s fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.
The newspaper reporter, who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, ‘But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my Dad wouldn’t let go.’

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, He’s been there holding on to you.

The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God. He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way but sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That’s when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very, very grateful. He did not and will not ever let you go.

Please pass this on to those you love. God has blessed you, so that you can be a blessing to others. You just never know where a person is in his/her life and what they are going through. Never judge another person’s scars, because you don’t know how they got them. Also, it is so important that we are not selfish, to receive the blessings of these messages, without forwarding them to someone else.

Right now, someone needs to know that God loves them, and you love them, too - enough to not let them go.

Always Tell Your Family

And Friends How Much You Love Them!!!

Makarajyothi

The most glorious sight at Sabarimala is the ‘Makarajyothi’ . It is actually the shining of a star in the evening of the day on which the Sun passes from the Equator to the South - the most auspicious moment in a year.

On the Makaravilakku day, the ”MAKARAJYOTHI’ ‘ is seen at Ponnambalameedu situated towards east from Sabarimala. Thousands of devotees reach Sannidhanam to have the sacred darshan of Makarajyothi.

Guru and God by Kabir Das Ji, from Kabir Amritwani

Jab Main Tha Tab Hari Nahin‚ Jab Hari Hai Mein Nahin
Sab Andhiyara Mit Gaya‚ Jab Deepak Dekhya Ghat Mahin

When “I” was then Hari was not, Now Hari “is” and “I” am not
All the darkness (illusions) mitigated, When I saw the light
(illumination) within.

Jo Kachu Kiya To Tum Kiya, Main Kachu Kiya Naahi
Kaho Kahi Jo Main Kiya, Tu Hi The Mujh Maahi

Everything was done by you, I have not done anything,
If somebody says that I have done something, you in me are th doer.

Nainan antar aao to, nain jhaap toye lun
Na main dekhun aur ko, na toye dekhan dun

If you come into my eyes, I will close the eyelids,
Then I will not see anyone else and neither I will let you see.

Jin ko Sain Rang Diya, Kabhi Na Hoye Kurang
Din Din Baade Aagri, Chade sawaye Rang

Jab Main Tha Tab Hari Nahin‚ Jab Hari Hai Mein Nahin
Sab Andhiyara Mit Gaya‚ Jab Deepak Dekhya Ghat Mahin

When “I” was then Hari was not, Now Hari “is” and “I” am not
All the darkness (illusions) mitigated, When I saw the light
(illumination) within.

One who is coloured by him will never have bad color,
The color increases everyday, more and more.

Aath Pahar Chonshat Ghari, Mere Aur Na Koye
Naina Maahi Tu Base, Neend Ko Thor Na Hoye

8 pahar and 64 moments, nobody is mine,
only you are in my eyes, how can sleep come in eyes.

Kya mukh hai binti karun, laaj aavat hai mohe
Tum dekhat avgun mere, kaise dekhun toye

How can I praise you with this mouth, I feel ashamed,
You can see all my vices, how can I look into your eyes.

Antar Kanwal Prakashiya, Bharmha Vaas Tahan Hoi,
Man Bhanwara tahan Lubadhiya, Janega Na Koi.

He lighted the Lotus of my heart where the Lord resides,
My mind became absorbed there and nobody understands.

Man Mathura Dil Dwarka, Kaya Kashi Jaani,
Daswan Dwara Dehura, Taason Jyoti Pachhadi.

My mind is Mathura and heart Dwarka, the body is Kashi,
At the entrance of the tenth door, I recognised the light of God.

Chaunshat Diwa Joi Ke, Chaudah Chanda Maahi,
Tihi Ghar Kisko Chanino, Jehi Ghar Govind Nahi.

If 64 lamps are lighted and there is light of 14 moons,
But if there is no light of God, that house is dark.

Pasa Pakda Prem Ka, Saari Kiya Sareer,
Satguru Daav Bataiya, Khele Daas Kabeer.

Holding the dice of love and the body as pawn,
Kabeer is playing on the tricks told by Satguru.

Guru Bin Gyaan Na Upaje, Guru Bin Mile Na Moksha,
Guru Bin Lakhe Na Satya Ko, Guru Bin Mite Na Dosh.

Enlightenment can’t come without Guru, Salvation can’t be attained
without Guru, Truth can’t be seen without Guru and vices can’t be
removed without Guru.

Guru Narayan Roop Hain, Guru Gyan Ko Ghaat,
Satya Vachan Pratap Son, Man Ke Mite Uchat.

Guru is God, Guru is source of knowledge,
Listening to Guru’s words, the mind becomes pure.

Laccha Kos Jo Guru Base, Deeje Surati Pathhaye,
Shabd Turi Aswar Hai, Chhin Aave Chhin Jaaye.

If Guru is staying lakhs of miles away, send your consciousness to
him, Let the eternal name of God be the horse which will go to him
and come.

Guru Kumhar Shishya Kumbha Hai, Gadi Gadi Kaadhe Khot,
Antar Haath Sahar De, Baahar Maare Chot.

Guru is potter and the the disciple is pot, he carves disciple
carefully, He hurts outside but calms from inside.

Kabeer Ve Nar Andh Hain, Guru Ko Kehte Aur,
Hari Roothe To Thaur Hai, Guru Roothe Nahi Thaur.

Those people are blind who do not know the importance of guru,
If God sulks you might escape, but not if Guru.

Guru Ko Sir Pe Raakhiye, Chaliye Aagya Mahi,
Kahe Kabir Ta Daas Ko, Teen Lok Bhai Naahi.

One who keeps Guru’s order on his mind, and goes everywhere
Kabir says, need not fear anything in the three worlds.

Kotin Chanda Ughahin, Suraj Koti Hajaar,
Teemir To Naashe Nahi, Bin Guru Ghor Andhar.

Even if crores of moon rise in the sky, even if crores of Suns rise,
Darkness can’t be removed and it will be too dark without Guru.

Satguru Sam Ko Hai Saga, Saadhu Sam Ko Daat,
Hari Samaan Ko Hai Hitu, Harijan Sam Ko Jaat.

Nobody is closer than Guru, nobody is as generous as saints,
Nobody can wish for your goodwill than God, no caste is higher than
the caste of God’s lovers.

Satguru Mile To Sab Mile, Na To Mila Na Koi,
Maat Pita Sut Baandhva, Ye To Ghar Ghar Hoi.

If you get the Satguru, you have got everything, if not, you have
achieved nothing, Mother, father, son and relatives, these are found
in every house.

Sach Paaya Sukh Oopja, Dil Dariya Bharpoor,
Sakal Paap Sehje Gaye, Satguru Mile Hujoor.

I got truth, true happiness came, the heart become softer,
All the sins got washed away, all when I met the Satguru.

Gyan Prakash Guru Milya, So Ji Na Beesari Jai,
Jab Govind Kripa Kari, Tab Guru Milya Aayi.

After meeting the Guru with light of truth, never forget him,
You have got him by the grace of God.

Jyon Naino Mein Putli, Tyon Maalik Ghat Mahin
Moorakh Log Na Janhin, Baahar Dhudhan Jahin

Like the pupil in the eyes, the Lord resides inside
Ignorant do not know this fact, they search Him outside.

Akath Kahani Prem Ki, Kutch Kahi Na Jaye
Goonge Keri Sarkara, Baithe aur Muskae

Inexpressible is the story of Love, it cannot be revealed by words
Like the dumb eating sweets, only smiles, the sweetness he cannot
tell.

Jaise Til Mein Tel Hai, Jyon Chakmak Mein Aag
Tera Sayeen Tujh Mein Hai, Tu Jaag Sake To Jaag

Like seed contains the oil, fire in flint stone,
Your temple seats the Divine, realize if you can.

Dheere Dheere Re Mana, Dheere Sub Kutch Hoye
Mali Seenche Sau Ghara, Ritu Aaye Phal Hoye

Slowly slowly O mind, everything in own pace happens,
Gardner may water a hundred buckets, fruit arrives only in its
season.

Kabira seep samudra ki, rate piyas piyas,
aur koi boond gahe nahi, swati boond ki aas.

Kabir says that the oyster in the ocean says, thirsty, I am thirsty,
however, it does take any drop but waits for the drop of swati
nakashtra.

Its meaning is that a true God-lover who is thirsty for God would not
go to just any spiritual master, he waits for the perfect spiritual
master who can show the kingdom of God within him and can make him a
gem.

eh doha hai i donno the doha but i can tel the meaning…

Chandan ki ped is very cool and spreads fragrance…
snake is very venomous…and is full of poison…
The snake clings to the sandal tree for its coolness…
but still it does not change ….poison is there…saamp kitni hee
der chandan ki ped koe saath..laga rehta hai..apni gun.. zeher nahi
jaata hai..

Kabir saab kehten hai…if anyone does something ill or wrong to
us…we should not do the samething to him…we must forgive and
forget..god will take care …kehten hai…whoever hs put thorn in
our path…he has put it …but why should we put the same thorn in
his path..let us not punish anyone who has done evil to us…then
again we have to come to this cycle of birth and death..again and
again to reap its fruit.

Said the little boy, “Sometimes I drop my spoon.”
Said the little old man, “I do that too.”
The little boy whispered, “I wet my pants.”
“I do that too,” laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, “I often cry.”
The old man nodded, “So do I.”
“But worst of all,” said the boy, “it seems
Grown-ups don’t pay attention to me.”
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
“I know what you mean,” said the little old man.

I will be honest here and share that I am not always comfortable
Around elderly people. I’ve never wanted to spend too much time with
Them - it puts me out of my comfort zone. But to give a little
Perspective, how many people would describe being in their comfort
Zone spending time in a room of teenagers. My point is that God
Wires us all differently. I’d rather spend time with teens; others
Would rather be with infants while others with the elderly.

But that doesn’t excuse us from not honoring those that we don’t
Always feel comfortable with. God wants to stretch us and shake up
That comfort zone, sometimes; He wants to kick us completely out of
That comfort zone.

He wants us to honor everyone; our parents and our grandparents, the
Young and the old, those we agree with and those we don’t, that
Homeless person on the street and all those in authority positions -
EVERYONE! I challenge you, this week, to think about who you are
Honoring, and who you are not.

Samiye Saranam Ayyappa !

The Hindu god Ayyappan is one of southern India’s most revered deities. Known also as Dharmasastha, Hariharan, Manikanta, Ayyanar and Bhoothnath, Ayyapan is worshipped in a number of shrines across south India. At Kulathupuzha, he is worshipped as a child; at Achankovil in conjunction with his consorts, Pushkala and Poorna; and at Sabarimala as an ascetic, a celibate meditating in solitude for the benefit of all mankind.

Sabarimala lies in the Sahyadris- the Western Ghats, in Kerala. Situated at a height of about 3,000 ft, the shrine is one of Hinduism’s most important pilgrimage centers.

Every year, between November and January, thousands of Hindu pilgrims converge on Sabarimala, after a rigorous 41 days of abstinence and penance. Devotees, each with a sacred irumudi- a cloth bag which contains pooja items such as coconuts, dry fruit, sandalwood paste, turmeric and the like, set off on the trek up to the shrine, chanting all the way.

Sabarimala holds the rather dubious distinction of being the only Hindu temple in India where women are not allowed. A number of feminist organizations have tried to persuade the Temple Board the revoke this age-old tradition, but to no avail. Many reasons are cited by the board in support of the decree; these include the 41-day penance imposed on pilgrims, the arduous trek up to the shrine, and the fact that the Ayyappan worshipped at Sabarimala is supposed to be a celibate hermit. Be as it may, women- and girls- between the ages of 10 and 50 cannot even enter the forest around Sabarimala.
